Chip repair
A chip filled this week costs a fraction of a whole windshield next month. That is the entire logic of resin repair.
What we repair
Resin injection works on chips — the crater left by a stone thrown up by the truck ahead of you — and on short cracks that have not had time to run yet.
Two things decide whether your damage is repairable, and size is only the first:
- Size. As a rule of thumb, a chip smaller than a toonie and a crack under about fifteen centimetres can be repaired.
- Location. Damage sitting directly in the driver's line of sight, or around the edge of the windshield where the glass is bonded to the body, usually means replacement — even when it is small.
We will not charge you for a repair that will not hold. If the damage has gone too far, we say so and we talk about replacement.
How it works

Inspection
We look at the depth, shape and position of the break to confirm it can be repaired.

Pulling the air and moisture out
The crater is put under vacuum. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that decides how good the result looks.

Resin injection
Optical resin is forced under pressure to the bottom of the break, taking the place of the air.

Curing and polishing
The resin is cured under ultraviolet light, then the excess is shaved off and polished flush with the glass.
The whole job usually takes under an hour, and the vehicle leaves right afterwards.

What people ask us most
Can my chip be repaired?
Usually, if it is smaller than a toonie, or a crack shorter than about fifteen centimetres. Location matters as much as size: damage in the driver's direct line of sight or around the edge of the windshield often means replacement. Send us a photo or drop by the shop and we will confirm.
Will the mark disappear completely?
No. Resin makes the damage far less visible and restores the strength of the glass, but a faint trace almost always remains. The point of a repair is to stop the spread, not to make the glass new.
How long does it take?
Injecting and curing the resin generally takes under an hour, and you drive away straight after. Call us for the day's availability.
Is it covered by my insurance?
Glass damage is covered by most Québec auto policies. We check your coverage before starting and handle the claim. Confirm your deductible with your insurer.
Can I wait before getting it repaired?
Technically yes, but every pothole, every blast of the defroster and every cold night stretches the tip of the crack a little further. Past a certain length, repair stops being an option.
